I’m Maya Jaffe, a writer and artist currently based in Manhattan. I recently graduated Summa Cum Laude from Santa Clara University with a B.A. in Theatre Arts and in English. While writing is my primary passion, I’ve also worked in directing, design, stage management, and film.
I find that there is something equally intriguing and infuriating about words. That’s what draws me to them, that they are so wonderful to work with and yet so temperamental. They’re divas, really. But I love the challenge of stringing together a bunch of words. Of puzzling out the best way to tell a character’s story, or figuring out which direction to take your audience on their emotional journey, or even testing out exactly how many innuendos you can fit into a play about bananas before it becomes overkill (spoiler alert: it’s eight).
Whether it’s on a stage in front of fifteen people or playing out on that big silver screen in front of hundreds, this is what I live for. The gasps of delight, the silent tears, and the cackling laughter that tell me I’ve mastered the divas.
